Persija Add Experienced Brazilian Defender to Strengthen Title Push

Persija Jakarta have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian defender Paulo Ricardo as part of their preparations for the second half of the 2025-26 BRI Super League season. His arrival is aimed at reinforcing the team’s defensive line as the club looks to remain competitive in the race for silverware. With this move, Persija continue to show their ambition by adding seasoned talent to their squad.
Born in Laguna in July 1994, Paulo Ricardo built his professional foundations at one of Brazil’s most respected clubs, Santos FC. Starting his career in such an environment helped shape his technical abilities and understanding of high-level football, giving him a strong base before moving abroad.
Beyond South America, Paulo accumulated valuable experience in Europe. He previously played for Swiss side FC Sion and Finnish club Kuopion Palloseura, exposing him to different tactical styles and competitive demands. His résumé also includes appearances in the qualification stages of major European tournaments, further underlining his experience on the continental stage.
Before making the move to Indonesia, the 31-year-old defender spent time in the Middle East, competing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hazem and later in the United Arab Emirates with Al Orooba. These stints added another layer to his career, highlighting his adaptability to various football cultures and environments.
Persija’s management expects Paulo Ricardo to bring leadership, composure, and maturity to the back line, qualities considered crucial for a team with championship aspirations. His signing makes him the club’s 12th foreign player, creating a surplus in the overseas quota, but it also signals Persija’s determination to assemble a squad capable of delivering immediate impact and sustained success.
