Neymar Faces Final Fitness Test as Ancelotti Weighs Brazil World Cup Call

Neymar is entering a decisive period as he tries to prove his fitness to Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the 2026 World Cup squad announcement. The veteran forward, currently playing for Santos FC, has a limited window to convince the coaching staff that he is physically ready to return to international duty after a lengthy absence.
According to reports, the 34-year-old attacker has just two remaining matches to demonstrate his match readiness before the final squad list is revealed on March 16. Brazil’s technical team is closely monitoring his condition, particularly his ability to maintain consistent physical performance after a long rehabilitation process.
The possibility of Neymar’s return has grown stronger due to injury problems affecting Brazil’s attacking line. Rodrygo, who plays for Real Madrid, has been ruled out of the tournament with a serious knee ligament injury. At the same time, uncertainty surrounds the recovery of Estevão Willian, the young forward from Chelsea F.C., leaving Brazil with limited attacking options.
Despite the opportunity, Neymar still faces concerns about his physical metrics. Performance data from the past year suggests his intensity and endurance levels have not consistently reached the demanding standards set by Ancelotti and the national team’s coaching staff. The Italian manager is known for maintaining strict fitness requirements and rarely selecting players who are not fully match-ready.
The situation became more complicated after Santos was eliminated early from the state championship, reducing Neymar’s chances to gain additional playing time. He now has only two matches left against Mirassol FC and Sport Club Corinthians Paulista to prove his readiness. With Brazil also preparing for upcoming friendlies against France national football team and Croatia national football team later in March, this period could determine whether Neymar remains part of Brazil’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.
