Indonesia U-17 Faces Tough Challenge After Landing in “Group of Death” at 2026 AFF U-17 Cup

The group stage draw for the AFF U-17 Championship 2026 has placed the Indonesia national under-17 football team in a highly competitive group, setting up a difficult path early in the tournament. The draw ceremony held in Jakarta confirmed that the young Indonesian squad will compete in Group A alongside strong regional rivals, including Vietnam national under-17 football team, Malaysia national under-17 football team, and Timor-Leste national under-17 football team. With several traditional football powers in the same group, Indonesia is expected to face intense matches from the opening round.
The tournament format divides participating teams into three groups. Group B consists of Thailand national under-17 football team, Laos national under-17 football team, Myanmar national under-17 football team, and Philippines national under-17 football team. Meanwhile, Group C features another competitive lineup with Australia national under-17 football team, Cambodia national under-17 football team, Singapore national under-17 football team, and Brunei national under-17 football team competing for a place in the knockout stage.
The championship is scheduled to take place in East Java at the end of April 2026. Matches will be hosted at two major venues, Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium in Gresik and Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) selected these stadiums due to their readiness and infrastructure, with the two neighboring cities set to become the central hubs for the regional youth tournament. 2026 AFF U-17 Championship Group Stage Draw Results:
