End of an Era: Julian Brandt to Leave Borussia Dortmund After the 2025-26 Season

Julian Brandt is set to part ways with Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. The decision marks the conclusion of a long chapter between the attacking midfielder and the club after several productive years together in the Bundesliga.
The announcement was confirmed by sporting director Lars Ricken following Dortmund’s narrow league victory against 1. FC Köln. According to the club leadership, Brandt’s contract, which expires in June 2026, will not be extended as both sides agreed to move in different directions once the season concludes.
Brandt joined Dortmund in 2019 after leaving Bayer Leverkusen and quickly became an important figure in the squad. Over the years, he accumulated nearly 300 competitive appearances for the club while contributing dozens of goals and assists. His creativity and vision in midfield often played a key role in Dortmund’s attacking play.
During his time at Signal Iduna Park, the German international helped the club secure domestic silverware, including the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup. These achievements highlighted his value to the team and cemented his place as one of the notable players of Dortmund’s recent era.
Head coach Niko Kovač emphasized that the decision was reached through mutual understanding. With the season still ongoing, both the club and the player are focused on finishing the remaining matches strongly before bringing their seven-year partnership to a close.
