Persiraja Midfielder Omid Popalzay Earns Afghanistan National Team Call-Up

Omid Popalzay continues to maintain his place in the Afghanistan national team despite currently playing in Indonesia’s second-tier football competition with Persiraja Banda Aceh. The midfielder has once again received a call-up to represent his country during the upcoming FIFA Matchday and the AFC Asian Cup qualification schedule set to take place at the end of March.
The management of Persiraja Banda Aceh confirmed that Popalzay is expected to join the Afghanistan squad for two international matches against Myanmar and Syria. The club received the official call-up letter earlier in March, marking another opportunity for the player to compete on the international stage while representing his national side.
Club officials expressed pride in having a player who continues to perform at a level that attracts national team selection. The call-up is seen as a positive sign that players from the Banda Aceh-based club are capable of competing beyond domestic competitions and proving their quality internationally.
Popalzay has played an important role in Persiraja’s midfield during the 2025/2026 Championship season. The 29-year-old joined the team in the second half of the campaign and quickly became a key figure in organizing play, helping control the tempo of matches and contributing to the team’s attacking build-up.
The club has stated that it fully supports Popalzay in fulfilling his duties with the Afghanistan national team. Persiraja hopes the experience he gains during international competition will further enhance his performance when he returns to Banda Aceh and help strengthen the team during the remainder of the season.
