Team News
Southampton are in outstanding form at the top of the Championship, currently leading the table with the best defensive record in the division (conceding the fewest goals) and an almost perfect home record at St Mary's (unbeaten in their last 14 league games there). They come into this match fresh after a controlled midweek win, with the squad looking very strong. No major new injury concerns: key forward Adam Armstrong is fit again and has been their main goal threat, while midfielders Flynn Downes and Joe Aribo provide control and energy. Expect Russell Martin to deploy his usual possession-based 4-3-3 with Joe Lumley in goal, a back four featuring Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Manning, midfield trio Downes, Aribo and Will Smallbone, and attack led by Armstrong, Che Adams and Kamaldeen Sulemana or Samuel Edozie. Saints will aim to dominate possession, build patiently and exploit spaces with quick one-twos.

Norwich City are pushing hard for a top-six finish, currently sitting just inside the play-off places with one of the division’s most entertaining attacking styles. Their recent away form has been solid (three wins in last five road games), but they can still be vulnerable defensively when teams counter quickly. No significant new injuries: striker Josh Sargent is fit and firing (double-digit goals), while wingers Amankwaah and Kasey Palmer add pace and creativity. Expect Johannes Hoff Thorup to set up in a 4-2-3-1 with Angus Gunn in goal, a back four featuring Kellen Fisher and Callum Doyle, midfield anchored by Marcelino Núñez and Kenny McLean, and attack led by Sargent, Amankwaah, Palmer and Borja Sainz or Emiliano Marcondes. Norwich will look to play through the lines and exploit any spaces behind Southampton’s high defensive line.

Head to Head Analysis
Recent meetings have been competitive and often high-quality. In the last six Championship clashes, each side has won two with two draws. Earlier this season Southampton won the reverse fixture 2-1 at Carrow Road, but at St Mary's the record is much tighter: Southampton are unbeaten in their last four home games against Norwich (three wins, one draw), frequently winning through superior possession and attacking quality. Games between these teams tend to be open and goal-filled: five of the last seven produced over 2.5 goals, with both teams scoring in six of those. Southampton usually control midfield and create better chances at home, while Norwich are dangerous on the counter and from wide areas. Expect a high-tempo, end-to-end battle with plenty of transitions and individual moments likely to decide the outcome.

Prediction
This is a proper top-of-the-table six-pointer between two of the division’s strongest attacking sides. St Mary's will be bouncing and Southampton’s home intensity, possession dominance and defensive solidity give them the clear edge in this environment. They are excellent at managing games against fellow promotion contenders and rarely drop points at home against top-six opposition. Norwich have plenty of quality to hurt on the counter (Sargent, Palmer) and have been dangerous away lately, but they have struggled to keep clean sheets against organised home teams. This should be an open, entertaining game with chances at both ends – Southampton likely to score first and force Norwich to chase, leading to goals from transitions and individual brilliance. Very tight call, but the home advantage and current momentum tip it to the Saints.

Final Prediction: Southampton win 2-1 (or 3-2). Home side to take the points – around 65% confidence in a Southampton victory, with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals very likely.
