Juventus Eyes Porto’s Diogo Costa to Strengthen Goalkeeper Position

Juventus is reportedly preparing a major move in the summer transfer window to reinforce their goalkeeper department, with Diogo Costa emerging as a top target. Concerns over Michele Di Gregorio’s long-term suitability as the first-choice keeper have prompted the club to explore high-profile options despite having Mattia Perin as a reliable backup.
Coach Luciano Spalletti, familiar with elite goalkeepers like Alisson Becker from his Roma tenure, admires top-level talent but acknowledges that securing such players would be highly challenging. Alternatives, including Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi, are also under consideration, though potential high transfer fees make some options complicated.
Diogo Costa of FC Porto has quickly risen as a preferred candidate. The Portuguese international is represented by Jorge Mendes, whose strong ties to Juventus could facilitate negotiations. His leadership role at Porto and consistent performances make him a compelling addition for the Italian side.
Porto, however, is expected to demand a significant fee. Having extended Costa’s contract until 2030, the Portuguese club values their captain around €50 million. While Mendes’ involvement could potentially reduce the price, Juventus will still need substantial funds to secure the goalkeeper and prepare the squad for the next season.
The move reflects Juventus’ broader strategy to reinforce key positions regardless of Champions League qualification. Securing Costa would signal the club’s intent to rebuild a solid foundation in goal while balancing experience and long-term potential in the squad.
