Dortmund secured a 2-0 away victory over Stuttgart in their last league match, with Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt scoring two late goals to seal the win. This season, Adeyemi has proven to be more effective coming off the bench than starting. However, after the match, he sparked controversy by provoking Stuttgart fans, which led to significant off-field discussion during the week. Adeyemi later explained that his actions were in response to prior provocation from Deniz Undav toward Dortmund supporters.

Ahead of this round, Dortmund head coach Niko Kovač said:
Bundesliga Round 29 Preview: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen

“The cup match is already behind us (Dortmund were eliminated by Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal). It was a great game, but unfortunately we lost. In the away match at Leverkusen, we might have been the better defensive side and also had a bit more luck. We want to win at home, but we also know Leverkusen need points and are eager to qualify for the Champions League. It’s a 50-50 game, and we must make sure we turn things in our favor and secure the victory.”

Currently sitting second in the Bundesliga standings with 19 wins, 7 draws, and 2 losses, Dortmund are nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich. While the title race looks difficult, securing second place appears more achievable. At home, Dortmund have been impressive, recording 11 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss in 14 matches, averaging nearly 2.5 goals per game.

In terms of squad news, Adeyemi is suspended after picking up a yellow card in the last match. Felix Nmecha is out with a knee injury, while defenders Yan Couto and Marius Wolf are also likely to miss out. On a positive note, the club recently renewed the contract of captain Nico Schlotterbeck, providing stability to the squad.

Leverkusen, on the other hand, come into this match after a thrilling 6-3 home win over Wolfsburg. Alejandro Grimaldo scored twice, while substitutes Patrik Schick and Malik Tillman also found the net. Leverkusen’s attack has been in excellent form, scoring 10 goals in their last three league matches.

After the win, Schick said:
Bundesliga Round 29 Preview: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen

“This comeback was very important, just like last week against Heidenheim. We realized we have to give everything for the full 90 minutes. This time we did it, but we must maintain that level throughout the entire match. I hope and believe that our second-half performance against Wolfsburg will help us get a good result away at Dortmund next Saturday.”

Leverkusen are currently sixth in the table with 14 wins, 7 draws, and 7 losses, four points behind the Champions League spots. However, with Hoffenheim dropping points against Augsburg, Leverkusen now have a good opportunity to climb higher. Their away record this season stands at 6 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses in 14 matches, averaging close to two goals per game.
Regarding injuries, Martin Terrier and Arthur are both sidelined, while there are no new injury concerns. Spanish veteran Lucas Vázquez is nearing a return but is unlikely to feature in this match.

In their last 10 meetings, Dortmund hold the advantage with 5 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses. Dortmund will aim to continue their strong home form, while Leverkusen will look to overturn the odds and potentially leapfrog Hoffenheim in the standings.
