Manchester United Move Closer to Signing Atalanta Star Ederson
Manchester United are reportedly making major progress in their plans to strengthen the squad for next season after reaching an agreement with Ederson over a potential summer transfer. Following qualification for the UEFA Champions League, the club have shifted their focus toward rebuilding the midfield ahead of a busy new campaign. United are expected to be active in the transfer market as they prepare for several important changes within the squad.
The midfield department has become one of the club's main priorities due to the expected departures of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte. Casemiro is reportedly set to leave Old Trafford once his contract expires, while Ugarte has struggled to fully convince since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. As a result, Manchester United are believed to be planning the arrival of at least two new midfielders as part of a wider squad rebuild.
Ederson has emerged as one of the club's most serious targets after impressing with Atalanta BC in Serie A. The Brazilian midfielder is highly regarded for his energy, defensive work, and ability to control the tempo of matches. Although several Italian clubs are also interested in signing him, reports suggest the player is attracted by the possibility of playing in the Premier League, with Arsenal FC also monitoring his situation.
Manchester United's transfer plans are not limited to midfield reinforcements. The club are also searching for a backup striker in case Joshua Zirkzee leaves during the summer window. In addition, the left-back position is expected to be strengthened to provide competition for Luke Shaw, with Patrick Dorgu reportedly among the names being considered.
The club are also monitoring options in other areas of the squad as uncertainty surrounds the futures of goalkeepers André Onana and Altay Bayındır. Meanwhile, potential managerial changes could influence transfer strategy further, especially with Michael Carrick still linked to the permanent coaching role. United have also shown interest in players such as Morgan Rogers, Rafael Leão, and Yan Diomande as they continue shaping their plans for next season.
