Ruben Loftus-Cheek Nears AC Milan Exit After Difficult Three-Year Spell
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is reportedly approaching the end of his time with AC Milan after failing to fully meet expectations during his three seasons at San Siro. Despite arriving with high hopes and showing flashes of quality, the English midfielder struggled to maintain consistency and fitness, leading the club to consider a summer departure.
The 2025/2026 season proved especially disappointing for Loftus-Cheek. Before the campaign began, manager Massimiliano Allegri reportedly expected him and Youssouf Fofana to contribute significantly in attack following the departure of Tijjani Reijnders. However, Loftus-Cheek was unable to deliver the expected impact despite being used in several positions, including central midfield, wing-back, and support striker roles throughout the season.
Injuries continued to affect the midfielder's progress, becoming a recurring problem during his time in Italy. Similar fitness issues had already disrupted parts of his career at Chelsea as well as during loan spells with Crystal Palace and Fulham. Across 100 appearances for Milan over three seasons, he managed to score only 13 goals, with his strongest performances coming during his first year under Stefano Pioli.
Although his contract still runs until 2027, reports suggest that extending his deal is no longer part of Milan's immediate plans. Instead, the club's management is believed to be exploring options to move him during the upcoming transfer window. Interest has reportedly emerged from several Premier League clubs as well as teams in Turkey, though negotiations could become complicated because of the player's high salary demands.
Loftus-Cheek's future at Milan has become even more uncertain due to the club's evolving transfer strategy. Allegri is reportedly interested in adding midfielders with a different profile, including players such as Leon Goretzka. As Milan reshape their squad for next season, Loftus-Cheek appears increasingly likely to seek a fresh start away from Serie A in an attempt to revive his career.
