Newcastle Eye Surprise Loan Deal for Juventus Striker Jonathan David
Newcastle United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Jonathan David from Juventus during the summer transfer window. The Canadian striker could arrive at St James' Park on a loan deal that may include either an option or an obligation to buy, depending on the final agreement between the clubs.
Reports suggest Juventus are open to letting David leave after a disappointing first season in Serie A. The striker joined the Italian giants from Lille in 2025 on a long-term contract and was initially expected to strengthen their attacking line. However, his performances failed to meet expectations, leading Juventus to reconsider their attacking options ahead of next season.
Newcastle are not alone in monitoring the situation, as Aston Villa are also believed to be aware of David's availability. The striker was once considered one of the most attractive free-agent targets in European football before eventually moving to Turin. Despite his struggles in Italy, his reputation from his Lille days remains strong, particularly because of his consistent goal-scoring record in France.
The Magpies are eager to improve their attack after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign that saw them finish 12th in the Premier League and miss out on European qualification. Several attacking signings failed to make the expected impact, including Yoane Wissa, whose poor scoring return increased pressure on manager Eddie Howe to find more reliable options in the final third.
Jonathan David is viewed as a player who could offer something different to Newcastle's current attacking setup. His pace, intelligent movement, and ability to operate across multiple attacking positions make him an attractive option despite not being known for physical dominance. The potential loan structure also makes the transfer particularly appealing, as it would allow Newcastle to strengthen their squad without committing immediately to a massive permanent fee.
