Former Indonesia National Team Coaches Who Also Managed Persija Jakarta

Persija Jakarta is preparing to announce a new head coach ahead of the 2026/2027 Super League season, with strong speculation linking former Indonesia national team coach Shin Tae-yong to the role. The announcement is scheduled to take place at Jakarta International Stadium, adding anticipation around the club's next managerial direction.

If the rumors prove true, Shin Tae-yong would join a notable list of coaches who have led both the Indonesian national team and Persija. This connection highlights a long-standing pattern in which the capital club has trusted managers with experience at the international level.

One of the most prominent examples is Ivan Kolev, a Bulgarian coach who twice managed Indonesia and also had two spells at Persija. His tenure included leading the national team at the 2007 Asian Cup and achieving memorable results, including a win over Bahrain on home soil.

Another key figure is Benny Dollo, a respected local coach who also served twice as national team coach and later managed Persija in the early 2010s. His club career included successful spells with other Indonesian teams, and at Persija he recorded mixed results over more than 40 matches.

Rahmad Darmawan also represents this shared coaching path, having briefly led the national team while enjoying significant domestic success with clubs like Sriwijaya FC and Persipura Jayapura. Across multiple stints with Persija, he brought experience and stability, even though major trophies with the Jakarta side remained elusive.
