Newcastle Keep Faith in James Trafford as Top Goalkeeper Target

Newcastle United continue to pursue Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford as part of their long-term plan to strengthen their squad this summer. Despite moving closer to a deal for young Stade de Reims prospect Ewen Jaouen, Trafford remains the club's priority target for the number one role.

Trafford's situation at Manchester City has become increasingly uncertain after limited playing time following the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The English goalkeeper has made it clear he does not want another season as a backup, pushing for more consistent first-team opportunities.

Although he returned to City with hopes of breaking into the starting lineup, his chances have been restricted mainly to cup appearances. Even so, he featured in key domestic finals where City secured major trophies, but regular league action remained out of reach.

Newcastle see an opening in their squad with Nick Pope potentially leaving for Ipswich Town, which could free up a starting spot. The club had already shown interest in Trafford previously and remains confident in their pursuit despite competition.

Manchester City are reportedly willing to consider a sale if Trafford insists on leaving, while still aiming to secure a strong financial return. Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, adding further competition for the highly rated young goalkeeper.
