Julian Nagelsmann Reportedly Set to Step Down as Germany Head Coach After World Cup Exit
Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly preparing to resign as Germany's head coach following the national team's disappointing performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Germany entered the tournament as one of the favorites but suffered an unexpected elimination in the Round of 32, raising fresh concerns about the team's recent struggles on the international stage.
Germany's campaign ended after a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay on June 30. The early exit continued a disappointing trend for the four-time world champions, who have repeatedly failed to make deep runs in major tournaments since lifting the World Cup trophy in 2014.
Despite previously expressing his intention to remain in charge until the end of his contract after UEFA Euro 2028, Nagelsmann is now expected to leave earlier than planned. Reports indicate that discussions with the German Football Association focused on the future of the national team following the World Cup disappointment.
According to the latest reports, both parties agreed that Nagelsmann would step down voluntarily rather than being dismissed. As a result, the former Bayern Munich manager is not expected to receive any compensation linked to the end of his tenure.
An official announcement from the German Football Association is believed to be imminent. Meanwhile, speculation over Nagelsmann's successor has already begun, with former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp emerging as one of the leading candidates to take charge of the German national team.
