Persija and Ryo Matsumura End Two-Year Partnership Following Contract Expiry

Persija Jakarta has officially announced the departure of Japanese midfielder Ryo Matsumura after both sides agreed not to extend their partnership. His contract expired at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to his two-year spell with the club.

Club president Mohamad Prapanca expressed gratitude for Matsumura's commitment, professionalism, and contributions during his time with the capital club. The decision to part ways was described as a natural step in professional football, with the club wishing him success in the next chapter of his career.

Matsumura joined Persija at the start of the 2023/24 campaign after leaving fellow Indonesian side Persis Solo. He quickly established himself as a key player thanks to his pace, creativity, and ability to influence matches in the attacking third.

During his time with Persija, the 32-year-old made 68 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 18 assists. In the second half of the 2025/26 season, he spent a loan spell with Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung FC before returning to complete his contract.

Before arriving in Indonesia, Matsumura built his career in Thailand, representing Rayong FC, Chiangmai FC, Police Tero FC, and BG Pathum United. His consistent performances across Southeast Asia have made him an experienced midfielder who is expected to attract interest as he looks for a new club.
