Rodri Joins Barcelona from Manchester City in €76.5m Transfer Deal

Barcelona have officially announced the signing of 30-year-old Manchester City midfielder Rodri. According to reports, the total transfer fee exceeds €70 million.

Manchester City and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Rodri, with the player set to sign a contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2030.

Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, commonly known as Rodri, was born in Madrid on June 22, 1996. The Spanish international plays as a defensive midfielder and is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world in his position. He is known for his exceptional tactical intelligence, composure in possession, ability to win back the ball and precise passing.

Rodri came through the youth system at Atlético Madrid before completing his development at Villarreal, where he made his La Liga debut. Following his impressive performances, Atlético Madrid brought him back to the club in 2018. After an outstanding season under Diego Simeone, Manchester City signed him in 2019.

A Key Figure at Guardiola's Manchester City
At Manchester City, Rodri became a key figure in Pep Guardiola's side. With his consistency, ability to control the tempo of matches and leadership qualities, he helped the team win numerous trophies, including multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League.

He also scored the winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final, helping Manchester City win the first European Cup/Champions League title in the club's history.

Rodri has also played a crucial role for the Spanish national team. He helped Spain win the European Championship in 2024, further establishing his status among the world's elite players, and won the Ballon d'Or later that year.

Previously, Marca reported that Rodri's move to Barcelona would be worth a total of €76.5 million, consisting of a €60 million fixed transfer fee plus performance-related bonuses divided into two parts, with €11 million considered relatively easy to achieve.

Rodri is currently 30 years old and has a market value of €55 million according to Transfermarkt. Last season, he made 33 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City, starting 26 of those matches. This summer, he also helped Spain win the World Cup and was awarded the tournament's Golden Ball.

Rodri joined Manchester City from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2019 and spent the following years playing under Pep Guardiola. During his time at Manchester City, Rodri won the Ballon d'Or once, as well as one Champions League title, four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.
