Gustavo Almeida’s Departure Leaves Persija With Just Three Strikers
Persija Jakarta have officially parted ways with Brazilian forward Gustavo Almeida, marking the end of a three-season spell with the club. His departure comes at a time when Persija are preparing for the 2026/2027 Super League season, with the Macan Kemayoran now facing a much thinner pool of attacking options.
The club had previously sent young striker Mauro Zijlstra to Arema FC on loan. With Zijlstra also no longer available, Persija currently have only Alexander Jeremejeff, Eksel Runtukahu, and Agi Firmansyah as their senior attacking options. The reduced depth in the forward line could become an important consideration as the club finalizes its squad for the new campaign.
Almeida leaves behind an impressive record during his time in Jakarta. Across 55 top-flight appearances, the Brazilian striker scored 31 goals for Persija. His first season in 2023/2024 was affected by a serious injury, limiting him to seven appearances, although he still managed to score twice.
His best campaign came in the 2024/2025 Super League season, when Almeida produced 18 goals and one assist in 28 appearances. He remained productive during the 2025/2026 campaign, adding another 11 goals despite limited playing time as he continued his recovery from injury. His consistency in front of goal made him one of Persija’s key attacking figures over the past three seasons.
Persija’s management considers the decision to part ways with Almeida carefully considered, while recognizing his contribution to the club. Despite having only three forwards at present, the club remains confident in the existing squad and is focused on strengthening its attacking options ahead of the 2026/2027 season. Almeida’s departure therefore closes an important chapter for Persija while also creating a clear need to ensure greater depth and firepower in the months ahead.
