Rafael Leao Weighs Aston Villa Move as AC Milan Future Hangs in the Balance
Rafael Leao’s future at AC Milan is becoming increasingly uncertain, with the Portuguese winger now considering a potential move to either Aston Villa or Galatasaray. The 26-year-old is reportedly more attracted to the possibility of playing in the Premier League, where he believes the style and intensity of the competition could suit his qualities better than Serie A.
Milan have acknowledged that Leao’s time at the club could be coming to an end and have lowered their asking price from €60 million to around €50 million. Both Aston Villa and Galatasaray are reportedly prepared to meet the overall valuation, leaving the final decision largely dependent on the player and the terms offered by each club.
Reports from Portugal indicate that Leao has already leaned toward Aston Villa as his preferred destination. However, Italian outlets have stressed that no final agreement has been reached. Villa manager Unai Emery is continuing to play an important role in the negotiations, attempting to convince Leao by outlining the club’s sporting project and explaining how the winger could fit into his plans.
Financial terms remain one of the main obstacles to a potential move to England. Aston Villa are reportedly offering Leao an annual salary of €6.5 million plus bonuses, while the player is seeking around €12 million per year. Leao is therefore waiting for Villa to improve their proposal before making a definitive commitment to the transfer.
There is also a difference between Milan and Aston Villa over the structure of the deal. Villa are reportedly interested in an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season, while Galatasaray are prepared to offer €45 million upfront plus another €5 million in bonuses. Although Leao currently appears to favor Aston Villa, several details still need to be resolved before his next career move can be confirmed.
