Youssouf Fofana Leaves Milan for Sevilla in Last-Minute Loan Move

Youssouf Fofana has completed a late move away from AC Milan, joining Sevilla on loan after his proposed transfer to Olympique Lyonnais fell through on the final day of the transfer window. The French midfielder will spend the season in Spain as Milan look to find a solution for a player who was no longer part of their plans.

Fofana had already been pushed out of the first-team picture and was left out of Milan's summer friendly matches and training sessions with the senior squad. Lyon had initially been close to securing him on a €2 million loan deal with a €12 million purchase option, but complications in Ligue 1 prevented the French club from completing the move.

The situation was linked to Lyon's efforts to deal with the transfer activity surrounding Malick Fofana, with Sunderland and Crystal Palace both involved in the race for the player. Lyon were unable to secure a replacement before the French transfer deadline, leaving Fofana's proposed switch without a path forward.

With the French market closed, Fofana attracted interest from Turkish clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray, but neither side managed to complete the deal. Sevilla eventually moved quickly to secure the midfielder, reaching an agreement with Milan for a season-long loan without a purchase option.

The agreement reportedly comes at no transfer cost, with Sevilla taking responsibility for Fofana's salary during his spell in Spain. For the player, the move offers a chance to restart his career in a new environment and regain regular playing time after a difficult period at Milan, while Sevilla gain an experienced midfielder without committing to a permanent transfer.
