Alexandre Pato Set for New Football Chapter with Northampton Town Investment

Former Chelsea and AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato is closing in on a new role in English football after an investment involving Northampton Town received approval from the relevant authorities. The 37-year-old Brazilian is part of the Sports Alpha Capital consortium, which has now secured clearance from the Independent Football Regulator and the English Football League. The development could see Pato enter club ownership three years after retiring from professional football.

The exact size of SAC's stake in Northampton Town has not yet been made public, but the investment represents an important step for the League Two club. The consortium turned its attention to Northampton after an earlier attempt to acquire fellow League Two side Colchester United fell through. London-based investment management company Gemcorp Capital is also among the key investors within the group.

The approval comes at an important time for Northampton, who are looking to rebuild after suffering relegation from League One last season. The club have endured a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign and remain without a victory, increasing the pressure to improve both on and off the pitch. The arrival of new investors is therefore viewed as a potential source of fresh momentum.

Pato could bring a strong football background to the ownership group thanks to his distinguished playing career. He earned 27 caps for Brazil and enjoyed his most successful spell at AC Milan, where he won the Serie A title during the 2010/11 season. His career also included appearances for Internacional, Corinthians, Sao Paulo, Villarreal and Orlando City, as well as a short loan spell at Chelsea in 2016.

For Northampton, the involvement of Brazilian investors could provide new energy and fresh opportunities as the club attempts to establish a stronger foundation for the future. For Pato, meanwhile, the potential investment represents a major transition from life as a professional footballer to becoming involved in the management and development of a club.
