Manchester United Up Their Bid for Everton's Branthwaite as Defence Concerns Linger

Manchester United have increased their offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, hoping to secure his signature. After initially rejecting a £35 million bid, Everton are still holding out for a higher price, suggesting the latest offer of £45 million with performance-based add-ons is not enough to finalize the deal.
Branthwaite's strong performances at Everton, notably helping them avoid relegation last season, have attracted interest from United. The club is looking to bolster its defensive options, particularly after the departure of Raphael Varane and the uncertain future of Victor Lindelof.
United are also in talks with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt, while another defender, Jonny Evans, is currently in discussions over a new one-year contract. However, with multiple defensive areas to address, the interest in Branthwaite reflects the depth of United's need to strengthen their backline before the new season starts.
