Manchester United has been urged to donate the proceeds from Greenwood's sale to women's charities

Although Greenwood has left Manchester United and transferred to Marseille two and a half years after the domestic violence incident, the controversies surrounding him have not ceased.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United has been urged to donate the proceeds from Greenwood's sale to women's charities. Following the forward's signing with Marseille, Manchester United could receive up to £27 million. Greenwood, now 22, last played for Manchester United in January 2022, when he was soon arrested and subsequently suspended by the club. In February of the following year, the UK's Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm against Greenwood, who denied all charges.
Manchester United then conducted a six-month internal investigation and loaned the former international to Getafe in Spain in September 2023. Greenwood impressed during his time in Spain, attracting interest from several European clubs. Last Thursday, Marseille won the race for Greenwood, and Manchester United included a 50% sell-on clause, which could bring them more profit in the future.
Anti-domestic violence activist David Challen has called on Manchester United to donate the profits from Greenwood's sale to women's charities. In an interview, he explained, "Manchester United is a large global sports club with annual revenues in the hundreds of millions. They did not terminate this player's contract—which they could have easily done—but chose to keep him for their own financial needs, prioritizing commercial interests over women's rights... The club seems not to care about women and girls, not even in the most basic way."
"They didn't even think of contacting women's charities until the last moment. In fact, they haven't donated even a penny to any of these charities or local charities, which is very poor, especially for a club of Manchester United's size."
"National service organizations are crippled and need funding, even locally. It is shocking but unfortunately not surprising, because Manchester United had the chance to terminate his contract, but they didn't."
