Arsenal Close to Sealing £42.1m Deal for Bologna's Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal is on the verge of finalizing a £42.1 million deal for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori. The 22-year-old Italian international, who impressed at Euro 2024, has attracted interest from multiple top clubs, including Juventus, Real Madrid, and another Premier League team. However, Calafiori has expressed his preference for joining the Gunners.

Negotiations between Arsenal and Bologna have progressed significantly, with discussions now focused on the payment structure and clauses. Although personal terms are not expected to pose a problem, some aspects of the agreement are still being worked out. Notably, Calafiori's former club Basel is entitled to 50 percent of Bologna's profit from any transfer deal.

Calafiori's standout performances in Serie A and at Euro 2024, despite Italy's early exit, have highlighted his potential. Arsenal aims to bolster their defensive options, particularly at left-back, where Oleksandr Zinchenko's impact has waned.

In addition to Calafiori, Arsenal has made other strategic moves this summer, including the permanent acquisition of goalkeeper David Raya. The club may also pursue attacking reinforcements if players like Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe depart.
