Julian Alvarez to Decide Manchester City Future Post-Olympics

Manchester City's Argentine forward Julian Alvarez has announced that he will make a decision regarding his future with the club after the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 24-year-old, who joined City from River Plate for £14.1m in January 2022, has emphasized his focus on the ongoing Olympic Games, where he is set to make his third start for Argentina against Ukraine.
In March 2023, Alvarez extended his contract with Manchester City until 2028. Despite the extension, Alvarez has been linked with a potential move to Atletico Madrid, especially after expressing some dissatisfaction about not playing in significant matches, including being a substitute in the FA Cup final loss to Manchester United.

"There is a lot of talk," Alvarez said before the match against Ukraine. "I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. At Manchester City, I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes. But we will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide."
Pep Guardiola, City’s head coach, acknowledged Alvarez's contemplation about his future but stressed the competitive nature of securing playing time within the team. "I don't think about replacing," Guardiola mentioned. "I know he wants to play in important moments, but the other players [want that] too."
As the Olympics progress, all eyes will be on Alvarez, not just for his performance on the field but also for the impending decision regarding his club career. The men's gold medal match at the Olympics is scheduled for August 9, which will likely precede Alvarez's period of reflection and subsequent announcement about his future with Manchester City.
