Manchester City Fined £2.09m for Repeated Kick-Off Delays
Manchester City has been fined £2.09 million for consistently delaying the start of matches and second halves over the past two seasons. The Premier League champions committed 22 breaches of the league's timing regulations, prompting the hefty penalty.

The club admitted to the violations, which occurred without valid external reasons. The Premier League emphasized that these rules are crucial for maintaining high professional standards and ensuring the global broadcast schedules of the league's 380 matches are adhered to.

In the 2022-23 season, City delayed restarts eight times and were fined £390,000. The following season, they committed 14 breaches, resulting in fines totaling £1.7 million. These included delaying the second half 11 times and the match start four times. The penalties ranged from a warning to a maximum fine of £200,000 for the longest delay of 2 minutes and 46 seconds during their 3-1 victory over West Ham on May 19, 2024.

City's repeated timing issues have led to significant financial consequences, although the club has not publicly commented on the fines. This pattern of delays has prompted the Premier League to enforce stricter measures to prevent future occurrences.
