Steve McClaren Named Head Coach of Jamaica's Men's National Team
Steve McClaren, the former England manager, has been appointed as the head coach of Jamaica's men's national football team. The 63-year-old has signed a two-year contract and will begin his tenure after leaving his position in Manchester United's backroom staff.

McClaren's primary objective is to guide the Reggae Boyz to the 2026 World Cup. Jamaica has only made one World Cup appearance, which was in France in 1998, where they were eliminated in the group stage.

Expressing his enthusiasm, McClaren stated, "I am extremely proud and excited to take this position. It's ideally suited to me at this stage of my career." This role marks his return to managerial duties since being dismissed by QPR in April 2019.

McClaren's career includes serving as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United and managing Middlesbrough, where he won the League Cup in 2004 and reached the UEFA Cup final in 2006. He was appointed England manager in 2006 but was sacked after failing to qualify for Euro 2008. He returned to Manchester United in 2022 to work with Erik ten Hag, who described McClaren as "an invaluable source of support and advice."

Having previously worked with Jamaica as a FIFA technical adviser, McClaren is optimistic about the team's potential. He remarked, "I quickly came to realize the potential the country possessed. With continued hard work and development, a bright future lies ahead."

McClaren will oversee United's pre-season training before officially transitioning to his new role with Jamaica.
