Atletico Madrid Secure £81.5m Deal for Man City's Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign forward Julian Alvarez for £81.5 million. The deal includes an initial payment of £64.4 million, with potential add-ons amounting to £17.1 million. This transfer marks a record sale for Manchester City, surpassing the previous high of £50 million received from Chelsea for Raheem Sterling in 2022.
Alvarez, who joined Manchester City from River Plate in 2022 for £14.1 million, has scored 36 goals in 106 appearances. Despite City's manager Pep Guardiola expressing a desire to retain the 24-year-old, the club has allowed him to pursue a move, similar to their past approach with players like Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.
The Argentine forward plans to finalize his decision post-Argentina's Olympic campaign, where they were recently knocked out by France. Atletico Madrid, who are also negotiating personal terms with Alvarez, view him as a key addition to their squad as they aim for Champions League success.
This move opens opportunities for City's new Brazilian signing, Savinho, to play a more prominent role, while Guardiola may look to further strengthen his squad for another Premier League title challenge.
