Liverpool Targets Zubimendi for Midfield Reinforcement

Liverpool is considering a move for Real Sociedad's midfielder Martin Zubimendi as the club seeks to make their inaugural signing under new manager Arne Slot. Zubimendi was a key figure in Spain's Euro 2024 victory, stepping in as a substitute during the final against England. The 25-year-old has been with Sociedad since 2011 and has a release clause set at 60 million euros (£51.5m).
During the last La Liga season, Zubimendi played an instrumental role, scoring four goals in 31 appearances, helping Sociedad to a sixth-place finish. The team also reached the Champions League last 16, only to be eliminated by Paris St-Germain.
Known for his admiration of former Spain international Xabi Alonso, Zubimendi occupies the same holding midfield position, a role Alonso famously held during his time at Liverpool. Alonso began his career at Sociedad before transferring to Liverpool in 2004, and later managed Sociedad's B team.
Zubimendi's potential transfer would mark a new chapter for Liverpool as they aim to bolster their squad and return to their winning ways.
