Sterling's Omission Raises Questions at Chelsea

Sterling's Omission Raises Questions at Chelsea
Raheem Sterling has been left out of Chelsea's squad for their UEFA Conference League play-off first leg against Servette. This marks the second consecutive game the 29-year-old forward has been omitted, following his absence in Chelsea's Premier League opener against Manchester City. Alongside Sterling, defenders Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo were also not included in the A-list submitted to UEFA.

The decision comes amidst Chelsea's recent spending spree, having invested approximately £185 million on 11 new signings this summer, resulting in a bloated squad of over 40 senior players. Despite manager Enzo Maresca expressing his desire to keep Sterling, he acknowledged the challenge of accommodating all players in matchday squads, citing limited space.

Sterling's representatives have expressed a need for clarity regarding his future at Chelsea. Having joined from Manchester City in July 2022 for £50 million, Sterling has made 81 appearances for the club. As Chelsea navigates their extensive roster, the possibility remains for Sterling to be included in the squad for the Conference League group stage, should they progress.
