Manuel Neuer retires from international football

Manuel Neuer announced his retirement from the national team in a video posted on his social media. In the video, he said:

"Dear fans, dear German football, after more than 15 years and 124 international matches, my career with the German national football team comes to an end today. Those who know me understand that I did not make this decision lightly. My physical condition is excellent, and of course, the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico is tempting. However, after many deep and long discussions with my family and friends, I have decided that now is the right time to end my national team career."

"Looking back today, I feel proud and grateful! Especially because we were able to achieve our great dream in 2014, becoming world champions together in Brazil. Over the seven years before my injury, I participated in 61 matches and led the German national team as captain. This was an honor for which I have always been grateful."

"This year's European Championship held in Germany was another highlight. Although we didn't win, every moment was filled with a special excitement and a sense of national unity. Let's continue to hold onto that feeling!"

"I want to thank all the staff, coaches, goalkeeper coaches, and fellow players who have been by my side since my first call-up to the national team on June 2, 2009."

"A special thanks to you, dear fans, for your support over the years!"

"I have always loved the feeling of wearing the national team jersey. Thank you!"

Neuer made his debut for the German national team in 2009 and has since made 124 appearances, keeping 51 clean sheets. He helped Germany win the World Cup in 2014, where he also received the tournament's Golden Glove award.
