Persija Struggles with 10 Men, Fall to Madura United in 1-0 Defeat
Persija Jakarta failed to secure a victory at Madura United's home ground, suffering a 1-0 loss in a postponed Liga 1 Indonesia match at GeloraBangkalan Stadium on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
The match took a turn for the worse for Persija when they were reduced to 10 men in the 40th minute due to a red card handed to Muhammad Ferarri for a foul in the penalty box.
Madura United capitalized on the situation with a penalty goal from MiljanSkrbic, which ended Persija’s hopes of earning a point. Despite their best efforts and open attacking play, Persija couldn’t break through Madura United’s solid defense.
Persija's head coach, Carlos Pena, acknowledged the difficulty of playing with a man down, stating that although the first half was evenly matched, the red card made it challenging for his team to maintain control. He also pointed out that they had several opportunities, including a header from Hansamu, but ultimately struggled to recover after the sending-off.
This defeat means Persija failed to close the gap on Persebaya, who are four points ahead in 4th place. The next challenge for Persija comes on April 12, when they host Persebaya, a must-win match to avoid slipping further down the table.
