Liga 1 Teams Risk Point Deductions and Funding Cuts Without National License Next Season

Starting next season, Liga 1 clubs that fail to secure a national license may face serious consequences, including point deductions. The league is enforcing stricter compliance with licensing standards, making it mandatory for all participating teams to meet national licensing requirements.
Since the previous season, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) has implemented a licensing system aligned with both AFC and national standards. While the AFC license is typically aimed at clubs wishing to compete in continental tournaments such as the AFC Champions League Elite, AFC Champions League Two, or the AFC Challenge League, not every Liga 1 team pursues this certification.
To ensure basic professionalism across the board, LIB — acting under the mandate of PSSI — requires all Liga 1 clubs to at least meet the criteria for a national license, which is comparatively less demanding than the AFC version.
The current licensing cycle for the 2024/2025 season will conclude at the end of this month, with official results expected to be published in mid to late May 2025. Clubs that fall short in any of the five key assessment areas for the national license risk starting the next season with a negative points balance.
Beyond the competitive disadvantage, there are financial repercussions as well. Teams without a national license will lose access to specific funding contributions offered by LIB. Licensing status is one of the factors used to determine eligibility for these financial benefits, which form a part of the league’s commercial revenue-sharing scheme.
The exclusion from commercial contributions acts as a financial deterrent and is intended to push clubs toward full professional compliance. Only those that meet the licensing criteria will receive this support, making the license not just a formality but a vital element of both sporting and financial success in Liga 1.
