Szczesny Closes in on Johan Cruyff's Unbeaten Record at Barcelona

As Barcelona prepares to face Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at Signal Iduna Park, having already secured a 4-0 win in the first leg, much of the hard work is done. However, head coach Hansi Flick still relies on Szczesny’s experience and stability to guide the team through the final stages.
Since the beginning of 2025, Szczesny has been a standout performer, firmly establishing himself as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. Barcelona is reportedly keen on extending his short-term contract for the upcoming season.
Having gone unbeaten in 22 matches since his debut, Szczesny is now set to play his 23rd match if he features against Dortmund, matching Johan Cruyff's unbeaten record from his 1973/74 debut season. This is an impressive feat, considering Szczesny’s consistency and resilience in goal.
The goalkeeper is now on track to potentially break the record for the most unbeaten matches in a debut season at Barcelona, currently held by Cesc Fabregas, who went unbeaten in 30 matches during the 2011-12 season. However, Fabregas’ team fell short of winning trophies that year, finishing second in La Liga and losing to Chelsea in the Champions League semifinals.
Szczesny will be hoping for a different outcome, aiming to ensure Barcelona secures further success this season. If he surpasses the unbeaten record, Szczesny will leave a lasting legacy at the club, earning a place in Barcelona’s history that fans will long remember.
