3 Liga 2 Clubs Accumulate Salary Arrears Reaching IDR 5 Billion
In the 2024-25 Liga 2 season, 13 clubs are reported to have unpaid salaries totaling around IDR 5 billion, with Sriwijaya FC, PSKC Cimahi, and Persiraja Banda Aceh among the most affected. These clubs still owe their players significant amounts, including salaries, compensation, and contract advance payments. This financial issue involves half of the teams from last season's competition, highlighting serious financial difficulties within the league.
The largest outstanding amount comes from Sriwijaya FC, which owes IDR 1.5 billion and 17,129 USD. Despite the team's financial struggles, this news isn't entirely surprising, as the club had already been experiencing financial problems. However, what caught many off guard was the inclusion of PSKC Cimahi and Persiraja Banda Aceh, who were among the finalists of last season and had been expected to perform well and potentially gain promotion to Liga 1. PSKC Cimahi, for example, owes IDR 871 million, while Persiraja Banda Aceh's arrears total IDR 27.5 million.
The financial issues faced by these clubs reflect deeper systemic problems within the league, which has struggled with managing resources. This situation not only affects the clubs' ability to compete at a high level but also puts the players in a difficult position. With such significant debt hanging over several teams, it remains to be seen how these issues will be addressed moving forward.
