PSSI to Impose Point Deductions on Liga 1 Clubs with Salary Arrears

PSSI has announced strict measures for Liga 1 clubs that fail to pay their players' salaries on time. According to PSSI President Erick Thohir, the federation will implement sanctions, including point deductions, for clubs with salary arrears. This decision comes after a joint agreement with the league to tackle the ongoing issue of unpaid wages, which has been a recurring problem in Indonesian football.
The move is part of PSSI's commitment to enforcing more professional club licensing regulations and protecting players' rights. Erick emphasized that this initiative is not only about disciplinary actions but also about fostering a sustainable football industry in Indonesia. He assured that PT Liga Indonesia Baru (PT LIB) will continue to enforce these regulations to prevent clubs from exploiting players financially and to ensure fairness within the league.
The issue of unpaid salaries has long plagued Indonesian football, and the new sanctions aim to encourage clubs to manage their finances more responsibly. Recently, players from PSIS Semarang, such as Evandro Brandao, Roger Bonet, and Vitinho, publicly voiced their concerns over delayed payments, drawing attention from the Indonesian Professional Footballers Association (APPI). APPI has pledged to assist these players in resolving their salary disputes and to ensure better conditions for all footballers in the country.
