Yuran Fernandes Critiques Liga 1 Amid Controversy Over His Salary at PSM Makassar

Yuran Fernandes, the captain of PSM Makassar, recently stirred controversy by criticizing the state of Indonesian football, particularly Liga 1. He took to social media to highlight issues of corruption within the sport, including the involvement of match officials. Yuran expressed that for foreign players who are serious about their football careers, Indonesia is not the right destination, suggesting that only players looking to make quick money would find the league appealing.
In addition to the corruption claims, Yuran also voiced his frustration with the performance of referees in Liga 1, specifically criticizing the officials during a match between PSS Sleman and PSM Makassar. He accused the referee of being biased in favor of Sleman and questioned their qualifications to officiate in the top tier of Indonesian football. Yuran’s comments further fueled the ongoing debate about the league's standards and the challenges it faces.
Although Yuran’s exact salary at PSM Makassar remains unclear, his market value has seen a notable increase since joining the club in 2022. His value is currently estimated at around 6.95 billion IDR, significantly higher than when he first arrived. Prior to playing in Indonesia, Yuran spent most of his career in Portugal, playing for various clubs but never winning a major title. His move to PSM Makassar marked a significant shift in his career, although his experience in Indonesia has been mixed with his critiques of the league.
