Arema FC Considers Leaving Malang After Persik Kediri Bus Attack Incident

Following a violent incident involving the stoning of the Persik Kediri team bus after a match at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Arema FC is reportedly considering relocating their home base from Malang. The attack occurred near the stadium and left the bus’s left-side window shattered, injuring Persik Kediri head coach Divaldo Alves. Arema FC’s organizing committee and management have issued formal apologies, expressing deep disappointment and concern over the incident and its implications.

Arema FC General Manager Yusrinal Fitriandi expressed frustration over the situation, citing the club’s ongoing struggles over the past three years to maintain its presence amid financial difficulties and a lack of consistent supporter backing. He criticized various stakeholders for failing to appreciate the club’s efforts and called on the police to arrest and punish those responsible for the attack to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Due to the incident and ongoing tensions, Arema FC is evaluating the possibility of returning to alternative venues such as Gelora Soeprijadi Stadium in Blitar or Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Bali for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Their last home match is scheduled against Semen Padang on May 25, 2025, a game that could determine the latter's fate in Liga 1. The decision to leave Malang, even temporarily, underscores the serious impact of the recent violence and the club’s concerns for safety and stability.
