Simon Tahamata, Maluku-Blooded Football Legend, Poised to Join Indonesia’s National Team Staff
Simon Tahamata is reportedly set to join the Indonesian national football team's coaching staff under head coach Patrick Kluivert. His role is expected to be as the head of scouting, responsible for identifying promising talents to strengthen the national squad. If confirmed, he will work alongside other Dutch staff members already on the team, including Denny Landzaat and Gerald Vanenburg. The news has attracted attention following a statement from Dutch journalist Dennie van Laar highlighting Tahamata’s new role.

Born in 1956, Simon Tahamata is a former Dutch international who played for top clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium. He earned 22 caps with the Netherlands national team and scored two goals during his international career. After retiring from professional football, he transitioned into coaching, working with youth teams at Standard Liège, Germinal Beerschot, and Ajax. He also spent time in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli and runs his own soccer academy. His technical knowledge and experience developing young players have earned him a respected reputation in European football circles.

What makes Tahamata’s potential role in Indonesia more significant is his heritage. He is of Indonesian descent, specifically from the Maluku region, sharing a similar background with fellow coach Denny Landzaat. Despite never winning major European titles, Tahamata is recognized as one of the most skillful wingers of his generation, known for his flair, agility, and intelligence on the field. His addition to the Indonesian coaching team could bring both tactical insight and a deep personal connection to the country he will now help develop in the football arena.
