Stefano Lilipaly’s Resurgence: Stellar Liga 1 Form Earns National Team Recall

Stefano Lilipaly has once again caught the attention of the national team selectors, earning a place in Indonesia’s 32-man provisional squad ahead of two critical 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in June. With matches scheduled against China and Japan, his return comes at a time when the team is finalizing its strongest lineup, particularly with the absence of Ragnar Oratmangoen due to illness.
Throughout the Liga 1 season, Lilipaly has proven his consistency and value to Borneo FC. Featuring in 23 matches, he has contributed five goals and four assists. His most recent standout performance came during a crucial 3-2 win over Madura United, where he netted the winning goal and reaffirmed his influence on the pitch. Despite being a long-time contender for the national team, he had previously been overlooked during Shin Tae-yong’s tenure.
Lilipaly last represented Indonesia in March 2023 during a friendly against Burundi. With 30 international caps and three goals to his name—including key strikes in the AFF Championship—his experience could offer vital support as Indonesia prepares for its final qualification matches. Under new head coach Patrick Kluivert, the squad will undergo a training camp in Bali before the final team is confirmed.
