Marko Simic Bids Farewell to Persija Jakarta, Future Path Still Unclear
Marko Simic’s time with Persija Jakarta came to an end during the final week of the Liga 1 2024-25 season. In his last appearance against Malut United at the Jakarta International Stadium, he entered the match as a substitute and wore the captain’s armband but was unable to change the scoreline, resulting in a goalless draw. Despite the disappointing finale, Simic expressed pride and gratitude for his long journey with the club and its supporters.
Simic’s career at Persija is marked by two distinct phases. His first stint from 2018 to 2022 was highly successful, with an impressive goal tally and several trophies, including the Liga 1 title and multiple cups. However, after a less smooth departure in 2022, he briefly moved to Serbia before returning for a second spell at Persija. Unfortunately, his impact during this comeback was not as strong, with fewer goals and less influence on the team.
The decision not to renew Simic’s contract was influenced by his declining performance and advancing age. Despite this, Simic remains confident about his abilities and hopes to continue his career elsewhere, believing he can still contribute significantly at another club. He also emphasized the emotional difficulty of leaving a team that has been central to his career for many years.
Looking ahead, Simic is focused on returning home to be with his family and taking time to rest after his Persija journey. Though uncertain about his next move, he maintains a hopeful outlook about finding a new club where he can thrive again. For now, he leaves open the possibility of wearing a different jersey but remains deeply connected to the club that shaped much of his professional life.
