Diaspora Players Drive Surge in Indonesian National Team’s Market Value Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

As Indonesia prepares for key World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against China and Japan, the national team’s overall market value has seen a noticeable increase. The squad, recently expanded to 32 players by coach Patrick Kluivert for training in Bali, now holds a combined market value of 37.5 million euros, equivalent to around 651 billion rupiah. This rise reflects the inclusion of more players compared to the previous FIFA matchday, when only 29 players were called up.
Much of the squad’s increased value is attributed to several top players of Indonesian descent who are currently active in European clubs. Although not all compete in top-tier leagues, their market worth remains significant. Among the highest valued are Mees Hilgers, Emil Audero, and Jay Idzes, with market values ranging from 4.5 to 7 million euros. Their presence greatly boosts the team’s overall valuation, highlighting the impact of the diaspora on the squad’s quality.
The list of highest valued players is dominated by those with dual heritage or foreign-born backgrounds. Notable names include Maarten Paes, Thom Haye, Ole Romeny, Sandy Walsh, and Dean James, all of whom bring substantial market value and international experience. In contrast, only a few homegrown talents like Rizky Ridho and Asnawi Mangkualam stand out among the local players, as most others compete in domestic leagues with lower market valuations.
This dynamic showcases the vital role diaspora players play in strengthening Indonesia’s national team ahead of important matches on the international stage. Their European experience and higher market values not only raise the profile of the squad but also bring a competitive edge as Indonesia aims to make a strong impression in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
