Relegation Drama Ends: Semen Padang Survives While PSS Sleman and Barito Putera Drop to Liga 2
The final round of the 2024-25 Liga 1 Indonesia season concluded with intense battles that decided the fate of several clubs. Semen Padang managed to escape relegation despite fierce competition from PSS Sleman and Barito Putera, both of whom fell to Liga 2 for the upcoming season. All three teams secured victories in their last matches, but the crucial points earned by PSS and Barito Putera were insufficient to surpass Semen Padang’s survival.
PSS Sleman sealed a commanding 3-0 win over Madura United, maintaining their winning streak in the last four matches. Meanwhile, Barito Putera staged a comeback to defeat PSIS Semarang 2-1, overturning an early deficit with goals scored in injury time. Despite these strong performances, the triumphs proved futile because Semen Padang also won their final game against Arema FC with a 2-0 scoreline, thanks to late goals that secured their position above the relegation zone.
As a result, Semen Padang climbed from the relegation-threatened 15th spot to finish 13th with 36 points, pushing Madura United and Persis Solo down the standings. PSS Sleman and Barito Putera, trailing by two points before the last matchday, could not close the gap and ended the season in 16th and 17th places respectively, leading to their demotion. PSIS Semarang, with only 25 points, also joined the drop.
Elsewhere, the last matchday featured Persib Bandung securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over Persis Solo, although Persib had already clinched the league title weeks prior. The final fixtures took place over two days, culminating in dramatic outcomes that shaped the end of the Liga 1 season and set the stage for the next campaign.
