Gasperini Poised to Leave Atalanta as Roma Offers Three-Year Deal

Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly close to ending his nine-year tenure with Atalanta, following positive talks with AS Roma. The experienced coach has informed the Atalanta board of his decision to seek new challenges and declined a contract extension that would have kept him at the club until 2027. His desire for a fresh start comes after a highly successful run, including five Champions League qualifications in the last seven years.

After discussions with club owners Antonio Percassi and Stephen Pagliuca, Gasperini expressed that he had taken Atalanta as far as he could and was ready to move on. His departure marks the end of an era in Bergamo, where he transformed the club into a consistent European contender. This decision opens the door for AS Roma, who are in search of a new head coach following Claudio Ranieri’s decision to step down at the end of the season.

Roma reportedly views Gasperini as the ideal candidate to lead the club into a new chapter, offering him a three-year contract worth €5 million per season, plus bonuses. Gasperini is said to be open to the proposal but wants a direct meeting with Roma’s owners, the Friedkin family, to ensure alignment on long-term ambitions and the club’s investment in future sporting success.

With other coaching options like Cesc Fabregas seemingly ruled out, Roma is now fully focused on securing Gasperini. An official announcement regarding his departure from Atalanta is expected soon, and Roma aims to finalize the agreement before the weekend to begin preparations for the upcoming season.
