Champions in Transition: Persib Face Key Player Departures After Liga 1 Triumph

Following their back-to-back Liga 1 championship, Persib Bandung is undergoing a significant transition as several of their key players begin to part ways with the club. Among the confirmed departures are Ciro Alves, Nick Kuipers, and Mateo Kocijan—figures who played crucial roles in the team’s recent success. Each departure marks the end of an era for a squad that had found stability and strength in its core lineup.
Ciro Alves, a Brazilian forward who joined Persib in 2022, leaves after three influential seasons where he tallied 32 goals and 29 assists in 96 matches. His ability to change the game in critical moments helped the club secure consecutive titles. Nick Kuipers, who spent five and a half seasons with the club, exits as the longest-serving foreign player in Persib’s history, having made 141 appearances and played a vital role in their defensive solidity.
Mateo Kocijan, though only with the team for one season, quickly made his presence felt as a reliable defensive midfielder. He featured in 29 league games and contributed significantly to Persib’s title-winning campaign, as well as in their AFC Champions League Two run. His departure adds to the list of experienced players now leaving the club, signaling a possible reshaping of the squad’s midfield engine room.
Uncertainty continues to linger around other players as well, particularly goalkeeper Kevin Ray Mendoza, whose recent social media activity hints at an impending exit. The futures of several other local and foreign players remain unresolved as contracts near expiration. As Persib celebrates its latest league triumph, the team is also bracing for a period of rebuilding and redefinition ahead of the new season.
