Six Key Players Ruled Out as Indonesia Prepares for Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Indonesia's national football team faces a setback ahead of their upcoming matches against China and Japan in the third round of the 2026 AFC World Cup Qualifiers. Despite initially calling up 32 players for a training camp in Bali starting May 26, six players have now been ruled out due to various reasons, weakening the squad's depth before these pivotal Group C fixtures.
The most recent player to be confirmed unavailable is Sandy Walsh, who continues to recover from an injury and remains unfit to play. Meanwhile, Maarten Paes and Marselino Ferdinan are suspended due to card accumulation. Ragnar Oratmangoen is also sidelined because of health concerns, further complicating the team’s preparations.
Adding to the list, forward Septian Bagaskara of Dewa United sustained an injury, prompting the coaching staff to call up Persib Bandung's young midfielder, Beckham Putra Nugraha, as a replacement. Eliano Reijnders will also miss the matches, choosing to stay by his wife's side as she approaches childbirth.
These absences force head coach Patrick Kluivert to reconsider his tactical setup and make swift adjustments. With the stakes high and a place in the next qualification phase on the line, Indonesia must rely on squad versatility and depth to maintain their competitive edge in these crucial matches.
