Bayern Munich Faces Setback as Jamal Musiala Suffers Serious Ankle Injury

Bayern Munich’s misfortune continued as they lost 0-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals, held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The defeat was a blow to the team’s hopes, but the more devastating news came when young star Jamal Musiala suffered a severe ankle injury late in the first half.
Musiala collided with PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while trying to challenge for the ball, resulting in his left ankle being badly fractured. The injury left players and fans shocked, with even Donnarumma visibly distressed by the incident. Musiala had to be stretchered off and replaced by Serge Gnabry in the second half.
This injury is particularly unfortunate since Musiala had just returned from a previous muscle injury that sidelined him since April and was starting in this match for the first time after coming off the bench in four prior games, during which he scored three goals. Now, his recovery is expected to take at least 10 to 12 weeks, dealing a significant blow to Bayern’s squad.
Coach Vincent Kompany expressed concern over the severity of the injury but refrained from making a formal diagnosis. Bayern will now have to cope without their young talent during a critical period, adding to the disappointment of their early exit from the tournament.
