Persipura Signs Former Ronaldinho Teammate Artur Vieira to Strengthen Defense

Persipura Jayapura has officially signed Brazilian defender Artur Vieira to bolster their backline for the upcoming Championship season, formerly known as Liga 2. The 35-year-old veteran was unveiled on July 9, 2025, as one of the club’s foreign player signings for the new campaign.
Artur brings extensive experience from various leagues, having played for clubs in Brazil, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia. He previously played in Indonesia with Barito Putera in 2019 and Deltras in Liga 2 last season, showing familiarity with the local football scene.
The highlight of Artur’s career came in 2015 when he played for Fluminense alongside football legend Ronaldinho, who had been awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or in the same year. This connection adds prestige to Artur’s profile as he joins the Mutiara Hitam squad.
Persipura hopes that Artur's leadership and international experience will bring added stability and strength to their defense as they aim for promotion back to the top tier. His arrival marks an important step in the team’s effort to rebuild and compete strongly in the 2025-26 season.
