Liverpool Seal £79 Million Deal for Hugo Ekitike as Summer Spending Soars

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of striker Hugo Ekitike, with the total deal valued at £79 million. The package includes an initial fee of £69 million plus performance-related bonuses worth £10 million. This major move comes after Liverpool shifted their focus from Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who was deemed unavailable for transfer.
Ekitike is expected to travel to England shortly to complete his medical ahead of the official signing. His absence in Frankfurt’s recent preseason match against FSV Frankfurt further signaled his impending departure. Frankfurt’s head coach acknowledged Ekitike’s exit as a significant loss, underlining the player’s importance to the squad during his time in Germany.
Last season, the 23-year-old striker delivered an impressive performance, scoring 22 goals in 48 matches across all competitions. His contributions were crucial in helping Frankfurt secure a Champions League spot, raising his profile as one of the most promising forwards in European football.
Ekitike’s arrival marks Liverpool’s fourth major signing of the summer transfer window, joining Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez. With this latest acquisition, Liverpool’s total spending in the current window is nearing £200 million, reflecting their clear intent to rebuild and strengthen under new ambitions for the upcoming season.
