Tensions Rise as Vinicius Junior Demands Mbappe-Level Salary, Real Madrid Considers Backup Plans
The once strong relationship between Real Madrid and their star winger Vinicius Junior has recently deteriorated amid contract renewal talks. The main source of tension stems from Vinicius demanding a salary equal to that of teammate Kylian Mbappe, a request that surprised the club given an earlier agreement had been reached.
This sudden demand reportedly came after Vinicius was approached by wealthy Saudi clubs last summer, influencing his valuation. Real Madrid’s management reacted strongly against this new request, refusing to revise the previous contract terms and deciding to freeze negotiations until Vinicius initiates further discussions or until 2026.
The club’s stance shows their frustration with the sudden shift in demands, and the situation has grown uncertain. Only a direct meeting between President Florentino Perez and Vinicius might resolve the impasse, but for now, talks remain at a standstill.
Real Madrid is also preparing for the possibility that Vinicius might leave, with reports suggesting the club is open to offers and could use the funds from a potential sale to pursue their long-term target, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. This strategic move adds pressure on Vinicius to reconsider his position amid rising speculation and media attention.
