President’s Cup 2026 to Feature 64 Clubs from Lower Leagues

The Indonesian football federation confirmed that the 2026 President’s Cup will take place in April with participation from 64 clubs. Unlike previous editions, this tournament will not serve as a preseason stage for top-flight teams but will instead focus exclusively on clubs from Liga 3 and Liga 4.
The decision was finalized during a PSSI Executive Committee meeting led by Erick Thohir in Surabaya. The new approach aims to provide a competitive platform for grassroots clubs across the country, expanding opportunities for local teams to showcase their talent on a national stage.
In line with this vision, PSSI has introduced a restructured system for Liga 3 and Liga 4. Liga 4 will be contested at the district or city level, with teams vying for regional trophies, while Liga 3 will take place at the provincial level, with clubs competing for governor’s cups as their main prize.
The initiative also places emphasis on youth development, with requirements being reviewed to ensure a percentage of participating players are young prospects. This strategy highlights PSSI’s effort to strengthen grassroots football, broaden competitive exposure, and nurture the next generation of Indonesian talent.
